Daniel Dunklee

Daniel Howard Dunklee, 71, of Clovis, California passed away due to complications from a long illness on June 18, 2025. Dan was born to Barbara Corinne Dunklee (nee Sims) and Howard Sherman Dunklee in San Bernardino, California in 1954, and graduated from Clovis High School in 1972. After high school, Dan enlisted in the United States Navy. During his life, Dan enjoyed work as a bookseller, publisher, and antiques dealer. Dan was a loving husband and father. He was married to his high school sweetheart Peggy for 52 years. They inspired a love of reading and art in their two children, Chris who became a photographer and Chaunacey, who became a librarian. Dan dedicated his free time to reading, writing, and volunteering with the Friends of the Fresno County Library. When not ensconced in the world of words, Dan spent time enjoying the scenery on the Central Coast and fishing. Dan’s occasionally gruff exterior belied a deep love of humankind and a belief in the power of creativity. He loved supporting local authors, sparking a love of literature in children, and pursuing artistic endeavors. Dan was predeceased by his mother, his father, and his sister, Mary Dunklee. Dan is survived by his wife, his children, his sister Beverly Pursell, and his grandchildren Sonja and Maia Dunklee. Dan will also be fondly remembered by family members Michelle Bautista, Mark Masterson, Frances Devins, Michelle Devins, Rick and Lisa Nadeau, Tom and Linda Audas, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He will be especially missed by his puppers Skye and Jasper. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to organizations dear to Dan’s heart – the Friends of the Fresno County Library, the ASPCA, and any group dedicated to love of books or helping animals.
