Edward Dean Griffey

Edward Dean Griffey (“Ed”) was born on May 18, 1961 in Fresno, CA to Harold and Mabel Griffey. Early in life, he briefly lived with his parents and his sister Judy in the State of Washington, where Harold worked in a shipyard. They later returned to Fresno, where Ed attended most of his school years. He graduated high school as a Fresno High Warrior in 1979. Ed married the love of his life Suzan Rounsaville on November 14, 1981. He pursued the trades as his career and attended Fresno City College in the 1980s where he studied industrial education and was formally trained as a machinist. He worked for Elliot Manufacturing as a journeyman machinist for over 30 years. Ed and Suzan raised two sons, Michael and Stephen. In 1997, Ed went into public service, where he worked for Fresno Unified School District as a Metal Tradesman. He was well known there as his father Harold had worked for the District for many years as a Maintenance Superintendent. He carried on the legacy of public service and was well known for his ability to assess a project, and work with his team to get the job done in a timely and high-quality manner. He was later promoted to a Metal Trades Supervisor where he served as a strong leader who inspired his team to work hard and get the job done the right way in the best interests of the various school sites and the District at-large. In his spare time, Ed loved to watch sports, especially football. At one point an “L.A. Rams” fan, he later started following the Oakland Raiders, who he watched religiously every Sunday (or Monday or Thursday depending on the team schedule). He also enjoyed his green space and could be found most Saturdays in the yard with Suzan gardening. Later, Ed found a passion for traveling. He and Suzan loved to take trips to the coast whenever possible and especially enjoyed the family trips with their sons and their families. Ed unexpectedly left his family to be with God on January 29, 2025. He was 63 years old. He will be severely missed by all his family, as well as his Fresno Unified family. He is survived by his wife of 44 years Suzan, his sons Michael and Stephen, his daughters-in-law Terra and Alyssa, his four cherished grandchildren Olivia, Madeline, Johnathan, and Emily, and his sister Judy and her husband Wayne Hart, and their family. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Chapel of the Light located at 1620 W Belmont, Fresno CA 93728. Graveside services will be held on Friday, February 7, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery located at 1411 W Belmont, Fresno CA 93728.
