Kevin Turner was born on May 27,1962 in San Francisco, California and died peacefully at home in Fresno, California on April 19, 2026. Kevin was the eldest son of Thomas and Margaret Turner. He grew up in Salinas, CA with his two sisters and two brothers. Upon graduating from North Salinas High in1979, Kevin enlisted in the US Navy and was stationed in Groton, Connecticut and later in San Diego, California. He was a submariner and was known as “Sumo: by his shipmates and held various jobs: electrical technician, Interior Communications Division (USS Snook), scuba diver, DSRV personnel (Avalon). Upon being a decorated Navy Veteran, he became an EMT and worked in Sacramento and Fresno. Kevin also worked with the Polly Klass Foundation with their computer needs. He was nationally recognized by the Klass Foundation for his countless volunteer hours. Kevin earned his chemistry degree with honors at Arizona State Univesity. He then attended Midwestern University and in 2007, earned his Doctorate of Pharmacy. Kevin worked as a pharmacist for Longs, CVS and finally at the Fresno VA Medical Center, recently advancing to the position of Associate Chief of Pharmacy, Outpatient for the VA Central Calilfornia Health Care System Kevin greatest blessing was marrying Susan Keller on July 7, 2007. Their marriage was a lasting example of devotion, partnership, and deep affection. They made their loving home in Fresno. To say that Kevin loved to read is an understatement, he was an avid seeker of knowledge and had an inquisitive mind. Kevin used his brilliance to write - from editorial pieces for the US Navy to video games reviews for various gaming companies and magazines - to letters home during his deployments. In his free time he refurbished watches and Swiss army knives, and even lawn mowers! But Kevin’s real passion was guns. He loved attending classes at Gunsight in Arizona. He also competed in numerous shooting events. He especially loved talking about guns and knives with his brother Keith. Kevin was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Turner. He is survived by his wife, Susan, his mother, Margaret, his sisters Kendra (and Scott Secondo), Kristen (and Brian Boroski) and his brothers, Keith Turner and Kyle (and Erica) Turner, and numerous nieces and nephews who lovingly referred to him as their “Uncle Gummy.” Kevin had a unique spirit about him He gave his time freely, supported those he loved without hesitation, and carried himself with humility and grace. He loved his family and friends. His loss leaves a space that cannot be filled, but his example, his laughter, and the way he cared for others will stay with us forever. We are heartbroken, but grateful for the life he lived and the impact he made on us. We love you Kevin and we will miss you always!
