Margie Cruz was born in Dinuba, California on June 13, 1928 to Jesse James Martin and Jovita Herrera Martin. She passed away peacefully on the evening of Thursday, September 19, 2019 at her home in Fresno. Margie was a dedicated Catholic woman. She had a passion and love for Our Lady of Guadalupe. When the family grew up in Sanger, California, they attended St. Mary's Catholic Church. In her later years when they moved to Fresno, Margie became a faithful parishioner of St. John's Cathedral. It was here where she devoted much of her talents. She served as long standing member of the Guadalupanos Society of St. John's Cathedral, was a member and held many offices within the Federacion Mariana de Guadalupe, Catholic Daughters Association of St. John's, Christ the King Celebration Committee, Commite Mexicano, Morelos, and the Lazarus Ministry. Margie served her Lord diligently as a Catechist, teaching the word of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She served as a Eucharistic Minister at the Cathedral and also as an Extraordinary Eucharistic Minister to the sick at Community Regional Medical Center Fresno. Amidst all her faithful duties, Margie still had time to enjoy her many talents of singing, gardening, rooting for her Dodgers and having some fun in Laughlin or Table Mountain. Many will miss her award winning tamales and famous salsa. Margie is preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 30 years, Albert Cruz; a grandchild Robert Cantu Jr., and her great granddaughters Aries and Andrea; and by her siblings, Sal Martin, Alex Martin, Esther Espino and Jess Martin. She is survived by her loving children, Jovita Ayala, Lollie Avila and her husband Ralph, Rachel Sadorra and her husband Richard, Gilbert Cantu, Albert Cantu, Robert Cantu and his wife Mary, Margaret Cantu-Guerra and her husband Gary and Gabriel Cantu. Margie will also be missed by her 27 grandchildren, 66 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. "We have lost an earthly angel, but it is where Margie was always looking to be, right in the Heavens at the right side of our Lord and Savior along with all her family who has gone before her." Visitation will be held Chapel of the Light Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at St. John's Cathedral. A vigil service will be held at 6:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John's Cathedral on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Belmont Memorial Park.
