Martin Joseph Wagner

Martin J. Wagner, age 67, passed away peacefully at his home on November 16, 2020 with his wife at his side. Marty, as he was known to his friends and family, was born on January 4, 1953 in Clovis CA to Joseph Wagner and Betty Nicholson. A true Clovis upbringing led to Marty’s love of the outdoors, enjoying many camping trips to the nearby mountains and at the family campgrounds at Mammoth Pools. Marty truly was a gifted craftsman and mechanic which led to his successful hobby in racing at the nearby Madera Speedway. Many warm summer nights were spent at the racetrack where he turned his passion into trophies. These gifts also made him the go-to Uncle to his many nieces and nephews; “Uncle Marty can you help me do this” was a common phrase for anyone looking for advice on everything from love and friendship to how to change a tire. His role in his family’s life was nothing short of father figure in all the best possible ways. After retiring from his 20-year career as a commercial building inspector for The City of Clovis, Marty found a new passion in gardening and he traded in his grease stained hands for a green thumb. His jade and geraniums remain a beautiful reminder of all his many talents. Marty is survived by his wife of 39 years, Maureen, his brother and sister-in-law Steve “Ace” and Jeri Wagner, his sister and brother-in-law Lynn and Art, Katie and Ethan Baker. His niece Carry and David, Chase and Makenna Gassett. His niece Ashley and Sean McBride. His sisters-in-law Kathleen Meehan and Allen Consolatti and Colleen Meehan. His brother-in-law Tommy and Cindy Meehan. Nephews Ryan, Joseph and Brandon Meehan. David Legere and Valerie and family, his aunt Nelda Wagner, cousins Amy, Craig and Ed Wagner and extended family who will all miss him tremendously. A special thank you to Dr. Jennifer Lai, UCSF Hepatology specialist and Dr. Sandeep Sekhon of Fresno. These doctors showed tremendous care and love to Marty and Maureen throughout their health journey. A celebration of life will be held sometime in the future when all can gather safely to reminisce and pay respects to a life well lived!
