Mary (Rosetta) Struthers was born in January of 1918 in Hanford, California. She passed to her eternal home on May 8th, 2017 in Arroyo Grande, California with her son Roger by her side. Life was difficult from her early years. Her mother died when she was 8 years old. Mary did her best to keep her family together, but ultimately she and her younger brothers were split up and placed in foster care. She was fortunate to have grown up with the Olsen family in Chowchilla. Mary met Army Staff Sargent Rodney Struthers at a USO dance at Castle Air Force Base in Merced, California. They married in 1943 and began their life of adventures and travel. They were blessed with four children; Gary, Roger, Sara (Sally) and Peggy. The Struthers family moved around a lot. She had lived in Merced, Kingman Arizona, Eugene Oregon, Phoenix Arizona, Fresno, Coarsegold, Clovis and finally Arroyo Grande, California. Mary worked for 40 years in the office at Fresno Ag Hardware, a business owned by her brothers John and Jim. In retirement she enjoyed traveling to Israel and Australia with friends. She kept busy going to church, bible study groups, quilting, reading, and playing BINGO. In addition to her children Mary was dearly loved by 5 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Her family meant everything to her. She looked forward to holiday gatherings and family birthdays. She loved to cook big meals for the whole clan. She loved to spend time in the garden. Even at the age of 99 Mary was still sending a personalized card to every family member on their birthday. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, son Gary, daughter Sally, husband Rod, and brothers Carl, John and Jim. She is survived by her son Roger Struthers and daughter Peggy Struthers. Mary suffered the early loss of loved ones more frequently than most of us and yet she never became bitter or lost her faith. She has left all of us with wonderful memories and a legacy of love, perseverance and living life to its fullest. Even though our hearts are heavy we know she is at peace in a better place. She has finally been reunited with those she lost so many years ago. Your light will guide always guide us Mom. We love you so much!
