Sylvia Alvarez

It’s with a saddened heart & endless love that we announce the passing of our beloved mom, Grammy, sister and much more, Sylvia Alvarez. She left us peacefully surrounded by her loved ones the afternoon of May 28, 2025, at the age of 62 in her hometown Fresno, California. Sylvia was born on June 24, 1962 to Belen Giron & Victor Alvarez. She was one of many siblings which include George, Victor, Lalo, Mary, Edna, Eddie, Bobby, and Linda. Her brothers played a big role in helping raise Sylvia. Growing up, since her family was dominated by boys, she played football with her brothers all the time. As a teen, their mom passed away and she was so hurt by this. It was a heartbreak that she could never get over and living without her was tough. She lived in San Jose for a short period of time and even attended school there with her little sister, Linda. Eventually, she made her way back to Fresno and stayed with her boyfriend at the time, Richard. Together, Sylvia & Richard had one son born in May of 1980 (Richard) and their second son born in August of 1984 (Alex). Though it was hard, she raised her two boys to the best of her ability. At the age of 35, she became a grandma for the first time and even then she still made sure everyone was well taken care of. Sylvia was a mother who worked hard to provide for her kids and took pride in it. One of the earliest jobs she talked about was working as a bartender at La Fiesta in Chinatown (Downtown Fresno). There she formed many friendships that lasted many years. Other jobs she had that she talked about often was being an operator at Pacific Bell, a dispatcher for the Police Department, cashier at Kohl’s and the cook at the Hilton/Homewood Suites. Sylvia is and always will be the light of our lives. Little does she know, she has made an impact on so many people’s lives. She was a social butterfly and never had trouble talking to anyone. She had one of the craziest personalities but that’s what made her Sylvia. She was passionate about the things she loved. Her hobbies included doing crossword puzzles, recording videos of her dog Baby, dancing, and going shopping. She is preceded in death by 2 of her brothers, her mom, and her dad. She is survived by her sons Richard and Alex, her grandchildren Anissa (27), Ava (24), Kamryn (23), and Jayla (18), and her siblings. Funeral services will be held at the Chapel of the Light Funeral Home on Thursday, June 12, 2025 at 11:30am. We love you, until we meet again, you will forever live in our hearts.
