    Eldridge L. Jordan Jr.

    February 5, 1935 - February 26, 2022

With great sorrow, we announce that Eldridge Leonard Jordan Jr. beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2022, after 87 years of life. Eldridge L. Jordan Jr. was born on February 5, 1935, in Midland, Texas, to Mildred and E. L. Jordan, Sr. He spent his youth in Texas. He traveled summers in Arizona and California with his parents, who were pursuing postgraduate degrees in Education. Upon graduating from Carver High School in Texas, he decided to attend college in California. He graduated from San Jose State University and became an elementary school teacher. After his student teaching, he was recruited by the Oakland Unified School District where he briefly served as a teacher, then moved on to serve as a Vice Principal, and then as a Principal for over a decade. Years later, he served as an administrator for the West Fresno School District until his retirement in 1994. In addition to his professional life, Eldridge was a loving husband and father who felt that family was of the utmost importance. He spent generous time with his aging mother up until her death. He shared many life stories with his daughters and so many unforgettable talks with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In retirement, Eldridge was an avid reader and spent time reading books mostly about various world wars and American history. He loved listening to music, reciting poetry and watching movies. Sometimes he played his clarinet and listened to classical music or his grandchildren play the piano in his home. Attending cultural events gave him pleasure. Additionally, he spent a great deal of time flying over the world using a flight simulator on his computer. Though he traveled vicariously, he still enjoyed himself. Being the social person that he was, he loved parties, good food and dancing. Eldridge is predeceased by his father Professor E. L. Jordan, his mother Mildred Benson, younger brother William and maternal aunts Iley and Cleo. He is survived by his loving wife Alice, his daughters Stacy and Kimberly, granddaughters Tatiana, Jessica, Risha and Enisha, grandsons Michael and Millard, and great grandchildren Joshua, Michael, Ayanna, Zion, Talia and Ahlijah, sisters Linda, Oci, Cheryl, and brothers Ray and David, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws in Texas and California. Eldridge will be deeply missed, but forever remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, with the kindest heart. The family would like to thank the wonderful people who helped Eldridge and his family, especially those at Hinds Hospice in Fresno
