Dr. Josefina A. Collado

Dr. Josefina Acosta Collado, affectionately called “Josie” or “Pamboy”, was born on October 13, 1936 in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, Philippines and peacefully passed away at home, surrounded by her loving family, on August 23, 2020 in Fresno, California at the age of 83. Josie grew up in the Philippines. She received her Doctorate in Medicine from the University of Santo Tomas. She later came to the United States to complete her residency at Michigan State Hospital in Ypsilanti, Michigan and worked at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Battle Creek, Michigan. Josie and her family moved to Fresno in 1984. She was a Psychiatrist at Fresno County Behavioral Health/Psychiatric Emergency Services. She also did telehealth at Kingsview Behavioral Health and was a Medical Consultant at the Department of Social Services Disability Evaluations Department, where she continued to work part time even after her retirement. Josie had a devout adoration for her Lord and Savior. She was a faithful parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church as well as Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Aside from her professional life, Dr. Collado was very active within several Filipino organizations having served in many positions within each group. She was a lifetime member of the Filipino American Association of Fresno and Vicinity, Auditor and member of the Pilipino Progressive Club and was on the Board of Directors of the Women’s Club of Fresno. She enjoyed attending countless social events with her husband, Dr. Orly Collado, where they would dance the evenings away with their graceful dance steps. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Orlando Collado, Sr., her parents, Paulino and Trinidad Acosta, her brothers, Jose, Alberto and Luzon, and her sisters, Consuelo Ancheta and Esther Ramayrat. Josie will be missed by her loving children Didi Bonifacio and her husband Nilo of Hercules, CA, Pamela Collado-Shinn M.D. and her husband Richie of Fresno and Jay Collado M.D. and his wife Koko of San Clemente, CA; her grandchildren Peter and his wife Michelle, Ace and his partner Sheryl, Mia, J.B., Alayna, Kyle, Tristan, Bodhi and Shanti; her great grandchildren, Maxwell, Sevie and twin boys on the way; her siblings, Lourdes Breguera, Remedios Balderama and Laluz Kenney of Fresno, CA. Visitation will be held at Chapel of the Light Funeral Home on Sunday, August 30, 2020 froom 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A vigil service will be held by Rev. Joel Davadilla at 6:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Monday, August 31, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery.
