Maxie Chavarria Gonzales
July 14, 1932 - January 15, 2021
Max Gonzales died peacefully at home with his wife Polly of 69 years at his side. He was 88 years old. He was born to Fermin and Rosa Gonzales the third of 12 children, and grew up in Malaga and Bowles before moving his family to Caruthers where he farmed. In later years he worked in agriculture and harvesting before retiring after 18 years with Campos Brothers almond processing. He was recognized for his booming voice and outgoing friendly demeanor despite being ready for an argument at the drop of a hat. He loved golf and was on the Board of Directors during his playing days at Kings Country Club. He loved and doted on his children, Max, Jr., Paul and wife Eleanor, Anthony and his wife Ayako, grandchildren Felicia Hope, Ashley Ruiz, Natsume, Yuzuru and Minato, and great grandchildren Gabriel and Neveah Ruiz. He will be missed by all. Following cremation and a private scattering of ashes, a celebration of his life will be held in the near future, following the resolution of the pandemic. The family asks that in lieu of flowers or other remembrances a donation be made in his name to UCSF Alzheimer & Memory Center, 155 N. Fresno Street, Fresno CA 93701. He was not a patient at the clinic but in his final years was affected by memory loss.
