Dr. Paul M. Laygo
May 8, 1930 - December 1, 2020
Paul Laygo, much beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and leader in the Filipino-American community, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 1, 2020. He was 90 years old. Paul was born to Pablo and Elisea Laygo on May 8, 1930, in Malolos, Bulacan, Philippines. He married his sweetheart and beauty queen, Lois, on her birthday in 1951. He graduated from the University of the Philippines as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and moved to the United States to work as a veterinarian with the United States Department of Agriculture. He loved the United States. He was very dedicated to the local Filipino American community and after he retired, he poured himself and his personal resources into community work. He and Lois sacrificed to secure the Fil-Am building in Fresno, known for civic, social and cultural events, and they became avid supporters of many Filipino clubs and activities. He was a proud Grand Night of the St. Anthony of Padua Knights of Columbus Council. As world travelers, Paul and Lois influenced their children’s love of exploration, art, enjoyment of the natural world, and human diversity. He also took pride in volunteerism as three of his children went into military service. Paul was thoroughly devoted to the Catholic Faith, his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, his many friends, and the Filipino community. The void he leaves behind will never be filled but his love will continue to thrive for generations. Paul was preceded in death by his wife Lois, daughter Estrella Parker, and son-in-law Dan O'Brien. He leaves behind his children: Vickie Veen and her husband John, Lisa Nadeau and her husband Rick, Joseph Laygo and his wife Norma, Charles Laygo and his wife Lanie, Paul Anthony Laygo and his wife Patricia, son-in-law Henry Parker Sr., and his grandchildren: Shawn, Natasha, Henry Jr., Tiffany, Paul Jr., Sarah, Jonathan, Casey, Joseph Jr., Megan, Charles Jr., Veronica, Amanda, Brittany, Stacy, Brandon; and 19 great-grandchildren.
