Azucena A. Diosomito was born to Miguel and Candelaria (Hintay) Apolonio on August 12, 1923 in Bacoor, Cavite, Philippines. She passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter and son in law, Grace and Mark de Castro after her reciting her nightly rosary, on June 4, 2024 at the age of 100 years and 8 months. Nanay, as she was affectionately called by those who loved her, was such a caring and loving woman. It was evident very early in her life when she was a volunteer nurse in Cavite caring for wounded Filipino guerillas and American soldiers during WWII, where she met and later married Herminio Diosomito and together they started a beautiful family. Eventually, they would immigrate to the U.S. to start a new life. Nanay was a lady of great devotion who instilled the love of Jesus Christ within her family. She was a faithful parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church where you would have been able hear her angelic voice singing. She was a member of St. Mary’s Channel of Peace Choir and Sacred Heart’s Covenant Choir. Nanay was a perpetually professed member of the Holy Family Institute, one of the branches of the PaulineFamily founded by Blessed James Albernione. She enjoyed spending time at the convent with the nuns at the Sister Disciples of the Divine Master. During her free time, Nanay enjoyed dancing, sewing and embroidering. As like any Filipina woman, she had an affinity for cooking and ensuring that anyone who came to visit would leave with a full stomach. She is preceded in death by her husband, Herminio in 1994 and by a son, Ador Diosomito in 2015. Nanay is survived by her children, Dante Diosomito and his wife Necieta of Florida; Elmer Diosomito of the Philippines, Grace de Castro and her husband Mark of Fresno, Rustica Diosomito of the Philippines and Delfin Diosomito and his wife Madalena of Florida. She will also be missed by her many grandchildren, great grandchildren and a host of extended family members and friends. Visitation will be held at Sister Disciples of the Divine Master, 3700 N. Cornelia, Fresno, CA on Monday, June 17, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p .m. A vigil service will follow at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. Nanay will be laid to rest at St. Peter's Cemetery with her husband Herminio.
