Charles L. Bowen

Charles L. Bowen, lovingly known as “Chuck,” passed away peacefully at home, on January 21, 2026 at Fresno, CA. Chuck was born April 25, 1944 in Manchester, Georgia to Edgar H. Bowen and Frances Bowen. He grew up in Manchester alongside his seven sisters and developed the humor, toughness, and charm that would define him throughout his life. He graduated from Meriwether High School in 1963 and soon after enlisted in the United State Navy. During his service he was stationed at the Naval Missile Center, Point Mugo, CA where he served as a photographer. After completing his military service, Chuck continued working in photography for 3M before eventually settling in the San Joaquin Valley. Chuck later worked in the oil fields in Coalinga before joining Texaco Corporation as a roustabout on an offshore platform off the coast of Carpinteria. He remained there until his retirement in 1997. Never one to slow down, Chuck later became one of the owners of the MoonLite Restaurant, in Fresno. There he enjoyed cooking and having cocktails with friends and family. In July of 1991, Chuck married Yolanda Salinas. For 34 years they built a life together filled with travel, laughter, great meals, and countless memories. Chuck never missed a birthday or an anniversary, and took pride in being a legendary gift-giver. One of his most memorable gifts was a diamond pendant made from their dog Smutt’s tooth – perfectly capturing Chuck’s unique sense of humor and love. Chuck lived life fully. He loved golfing, attending the horse races at the Fresno Fair, rolling dice with friends, gambling and watching sports—especially football. Chuck is survived by his wife Yolanda, his children Shannon Furtado and Sean Bowen, and his grandchildren: Chase Furtado, Sydney Furtado, Brigett Brothers, Sean Bowen II, and Jonathan Areola, and seven great grand-children. He is also survived by his sisters: Frances Pearson (Alan), Kathy Umbro, Joyce Dempsey (Jackie), and Pam Robinson. He was preceded in death by three sisters: Glenese Stevens, Penny Phillips, and Dorothy Wright.
