Joe Chabala May 27, 1961 -March 14, 2018 Joe Benny Chabala was born in Germany. His loving parents John and Rita Chabala brought Joe to America and loved him, encouraged him and raised him to be the loving, talented, and soft spoken man which he became throughout his all too short life. Joe was a graduate of Hoover High School in 1979. He appreciated his time at Hoover and was a very active member of the Patriot’s student body. While at Hoover, Joe found his interest in journalism and prepared himself to major in journalism and pursue a career in mass communications. Joe received a BA in Journalism at California State University, Fresno, in 1985. After graduating from Hoover, Joe became one of the youngest and one of the first Latino on-air television reporters for Channel 30 Action News. He was a reporter at this local station for eleven years before pursuing a career in public relations. Joe took on the challenge of being the Public Information's Officer/Director at the Fresno Metropolitan Museum in 1991. He was responsible for the promotion of all museum exhibitions and creating fundraising events for this once premiere arts and educational institution of the valley. Continuing to advance his career Joe was marketing/promotions director at many radio broadcast groups in Fresno, Bakersfield, Spokane, and Monterey. Joe Chabala went to his heavenly rest on March 14, 2018 after a long battle with congenital heart disease at the age of 56. He leaves behind his loving brother John, his niece April, his nephew Michael, his godson Chance, and his life long friend Patrick. In lieu of flowers for Joe’s funeral, his family would appreciate monetary contributions to the Joe Chabala Memorial Scholarship which will be an annual scholarship at Hoover High School in memory of this much loved and gifted man. Joe was a man with a quiet demeanor, artistic soul, and positive loving spirit. His great creativity, advancement in the education/arts field, contributions to journalism, and loving friendship will be greatly missed.
