Richard Duarte

Richard “The Rock” Duarte, 63 of Fresno California, went home to be with the Lord surrounded by his family on May 23, 2020. Richard Duarte was born in Fresno on September 9th and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1975. He continued his education at Fresno City College then on to Fresno State University. He worked in construction for over 40 years which brought him to Fresno Roofing where he began a 25-year long career starting as an apprentice, journeyman and then on to the Superintendent. He loved working with his hands and known as a master craftsman of all trades he put his hands to. The Rock was a wordsmith and had excellent communication skills which was one of his many strengths. He was a man of honor who spoke the truth even during adversity and was respected for it. Throughout his lifetime he exemplified who God was through actions, his one powerful tag line was “You love people not things”. Undoubtedly a man after Gods Own Heart through actions and words. He served his church, community, and those less fortunate, such as the homeless. His hobbies were classic cars, golfing, a master craftsman at carpentry and was consistently perfecting his yard, enjoyed pruning his Japanese maples and Sago palms. His greatest achievement were his children and grandchildren, which filled his heart with joy! He loved spending time watching the Minnesota Vikings with his daughters and known for poking jokes and teasing them all in good fun…. Pure Joy! Richard Duarte is preceded in death by his Parents Paul & Josephine Duarte as well as brothers Paul Jr. & Steven Duarte. Richard Duarte is survived by his children: Tiffani Revilla, Melissa Duarte, Jennifer Mercado & son Richard Brandon Duarte. His Grandchildren Makoa Andrade, Christian Veloria, Sophia Revilla, Isabella Thomson, Olivia and Guiliana Revilla, Lincoln and Richard Luke Clark and Santana Mercado. As well as his brothers Carlos and Edward Duarte & sisters Mary Jordan & Helen Diaz. Viewing will be held June 5, 2020 at Chapel of the Light Funeral Home, 1620 W. Belmont Fresno, Ca 93728 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. An evening service will begin at 7:00 pm with guest speaker, Minister Bobby McGee of Mount Olive Baptist Church. Funeral services will commence June 6, 2020 at Chapel of the Light at 10:00 a.m. Officiating services will be Pastor Nic Pope of Sequoia Church. Interment will follow at Washington Colony Cemetery. The Celebration of Life will be held at The CPDES Hall, 172 W. Jefferson Avenue, Fresno, CA 93706. To further honor The Rocks memory, we are asking in lieu of flowers or plants we ask to send all memorial donations to The Monastery of the Holy Theotokos the Life-Giving Spring, 38526 Dunlap Road, Dunlap California 93675. The family of Richard Duarte wishes to thank you for your prayers, the lifelong friendships with our father, your unconditional love and support you have given him during his journey.
