Romey Marquez Potter was born on August 27, 1934, in Carpinteria, CA, to Delores Marquez and Josefina Loza from the Jalisco area of Central Mexico. Her roots, of Spanish origin, trace back to the late 1500's. Romey Marquez Potter passed away at home on Monday, December 14, 2015. She had a brother, Elias Leslie Marquez, birthday, July 21, 1931, in Carpinteria, CA, and a sister, Yolanda L. Marquez, birthday, June 6, 1948, in Santa Barbara, CA. Her father, Delores, died in 1984. Her brother Leslie died in September 2004. Her mother Josefina died in October 2008. She was living in Santa Barbara when she met her future husband who was in the United States Navy. She is the wife of Kenneth D. Potter, Jr., known as Ken Potter, and lives on a ranch in Southern Madera County. She married Ken in 1952, in Yuma, AZ. They moved to Madera, CA, to begin farming and raise a family. They were divorced in 1975. They were remarried at Lake Tahoe, CA, in 2004, where she returned to Madera. After the family got older, she began to work away from the house and worked at such businesses as Prices, James Department Store, Smith Volpa Dodge, and Dr. Johnstone. She was a wonderful mother and homemaker. She participated in many of her children's activities while in grammar school. She was fun loving, friendly and a wonderful person to be around. They have three children, Alan Wayne Potter, birth date of January 4, 1955, and Steven Keith Potter, birth date of January 4, 1956, and Denise Jean Potter Penner, birth date of May 1, 1957. Romey has eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. The grandchildren are Matthew Alan, birth date of October 27, 1977, and Paul Joseph Potter, birth date of October 11 1978, sons of Alan and Renee Potter; Michelle Lynn Potter, birth date of February 2, 1979, and Nicole Marie Potter Harold, birth date of June 22, 1983, daughters of Steve and his previous wife Debra Wolfgang; Shelby Christine Wong-Potter, birth date of August 21, 1991, and Kenny Walter Wong-Potter, birth date of September 15, 1992, daughter and son of Steve and his partner Karen Wong; Jennifer Lynn Doran, birth date of July 10, 1978, daughter of Denise and previous husband Steven Lee Doran; and Michael John Penner, birth date of September of 1986, son of Denise and her former husband Ronald John Penner, now deceased. The great-grandchildren are Ashlee, Bryant, Connor and Breonna, children of Jennifer; Bella, Emeliyn and Sylar, children of Michelle; and Haylee and Austin, children of Nicole. Romey lived in Carlsbad, CA, a few years before she married Carlin Steiner in 1979, who was born in 1934. a Madera High School graduate, Class of 1950. They lived in Marina Del Rey, CA, where she worked in various Dr. offices. She also lived in Poway and Vista, CA, while married to Carlin. He passed away in 1998. In Vista, CA, she worked at the Ross Store until she remarried her former husband, Ken Potter in 2004.
