Sona Vartanian was born on July 23, 1943, in Beirut Lebanon to loving parents Nevere and Nazareth Ohanessian. Sona went into glory January 18, 2026 in Fresno, California. She was raised alongside her two brothers John and Emmanuel, and her sister Sossie. Sona received her education at St. Agnes Armenian Catholic School, under the care of Sisters of the Immaculate Conception, where the foundations of her lifelong faith, discipline, and service were nurtured. From an early age, Sona demonstrated a deep commitment to her community. She was actively involved in Homenetmen scouts in Beirut Lebanon also serving as a scout leader offering her time and guidance with devotion to the Armenian youth until 1967. That year marked a new chapter in her life when Sarkis Vartanian returned to Lebanon to ask for her hand in marriage. Following their beautiful wedding Sarkis and Sona moved to Africa where they started their life together. They shared 61 wonderful years of marriage, a union defined by love, faith, perseverance, and mutual respect. In 1977 Sarkis and Sona moved with their family to the United States of America finding their home in Fresno California. Together, Sarkis and Sona raised two sons, Vartan and Nazareth and daughter Taline. Sona was a deeply loving mother, whose greatest joy came from her children and later her grandchildren. She was abundantly blessed with five grandchildren Farrah, Lexah, Avi, Bebe and Lilou. Whom she cherished with all her heart. Sona was a devoted member of Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church where faith remained central to her life. Sona was known for her quiet strength, unwavering generosity, and sincere dedication to service. She was a devoted member of the ARS Sophia chapter, serving with steadfast commitment always guided by compassion and a deep sense of responsibility to her community. Sonas's faith in our Savior Jesus Christ gives us comfort and hope, trusting that she now rests with Him in eternal glory. She will be profoundly missed, not only for the many roles she fulfilled, but for the grace, love, and kindness which she lived her life. Her legacy endures through the family she nurtured, the lives she touched, and the faith she so beautifully embodied. We will cherish her memory for the rest of our lives. She is survived by her husband Sarkis Vartanian. Her son Vartan and wife Shalyah Vartanian and granddaughters Ferrah and Lexah. Her son Nazareth and wife Qali Vartanian and grandchildren Avarim and Beatrix. Her daughter, Taline Vartanian and granddaughter Lilou. Brothers Jean and Emmanuel, sister Sossie and her nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on February 5th, 2026, at Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church at 2226 E. Cesar Chavez Blvd. Fresno, CA.93721 at 10:30 AM Followed by burial services at Ararat Cemetery
